IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Cynthia "Peanut"
(Lewis) Tyus
November 14, 1965 – June 2, 2025
MRS. CYNTHIA TYUS was born on November 14, 1965, in Griffin, Georgia, to the late Mr.
Willie Floyd Arnold and Ms. Lucilla Lewis. From the beginning, Cynthia was full of light, laughter, and love— a true gift to her family and everyone blessed to know her.
She received her education through the Griffin-Spalding County School System. Early in life, she accepted Christ and became a faithful member of St. Luke Overcoming Church of God, under the loving leadership of her sister, Pastor Ruby Kendall. At St. Luke, Cynthia served joyfully as an usher, greeting all who entered with warmth and her signature smile that could brighten the darkest day.
Cynthia found deep joy in being surrounded by her family. She was happiest when her loved ones were near, and her presence brought unity and peace. Her sisters laugh at how she would always remind them, "I'm the baby" —a playful and endearing reminder of her cherished place in the family. That simple phrase said so much. She felt loved, and she loved freely in return.
Her family described her as having a heart of gold, always giving, always caring, always present.
She loved deeply and served selflessly, especially through her work as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) for many years. She provided compassionate care to others with patience and dignity, never treating it as just a job, but as a ministry from the heart.
Cynthia was a woman of many talents and interests. She had a passion for crocheting, and her hands would often be found creating warmth and beauty through every stitch. In her younger years, she also had a love for playing softball, which brought her joy, energy, and connection with others.
She was the proud mother of three children, and to them she was more than just a mother, she was their covering, their encourager, their source of joy. They fondly recall how her smile could be heard even through the phone— it was that powerful. And whenever you were in her presence, you could expect to hear her say, "Whoop, there it is... I love you"-words that became her loving signature.
Her dance was like no other-joyful, expressive, and unforgettable. Her family loved to see her dance, because it wasn't just fun—it was freeing. It reflected her spirit: full of praise, personality, and power.
On June 2, 2025, God called her home. Cynthia transitioned from labor to reward, leaving behind a legacy that is both deep and wide, woven in love, wrapped in purpose, and sealed in eternity.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Larry Curtis Tyus, Sr.; parents, Willie Floyd Arnold and Lucille Lewis; and siblings, Howard Lewis, Thomas Lewis, Vera Elaine Wilder, and Audre Epps.
She leaves to cherish her memory: her children, LaSharon (Rod) Tyus-Allen, Larry D. Tyus, and Curtis R. Tyus, Sr.; grandchildren, Jawana, Demarius, Briosha, Dedrick, Zorianna, Kamora, Olivia, and Curtis, Jr.; siblings, Curtis (Gwendolyn) Arnold, Jeffery (Ebony) Arnold, Ruby J.
Kendall, Patricia Lewis, Carolyn (Monty) McKnight, Pauline Sutton, and Lorette (Norris) McGee; companion, Michael Jones; bonus children, Shontaye (Tony) Smikes, and Tonya Tyus; uncle, William Arnold; goddaughter, Jasmine Smith, and host of nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends.
Though our hearts grieve, we do not grieve as those without hope. We celebrate the life of a woman who gave us laughter, legacy, and love. She was a woman who served with strength, loved with passion, and lived with purpose.
We honor the life and legacy of Mrs. Cynthia Tyus, a woman of God, a woman of joy, a woman of family, a woman of grace. Her life was truly woven in love, wrapped in purpose, and finished in Glory. Rest well, Cynthia. Your smile, your dance, and your love will never be forgotten.
