Mr. JaVuntae Markel Vaughn, affectionately known as "Hyphen" by family and friends, was born August 1, 2006, in Griffin, Georgia, to Marquita Norris and Jarvis Vaughn. JaVuntae accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as his savior at a young age and attended many local churches to "get his praise on." JaVuntae was known by many for his charming personality, humbleness, joking spirit, and smile that touched whomever was in his presence. He obtained his formal education from the Griffin- Spalding County school system and is a 2024 graduate of A. Z. Kelsey Academy. His hobbies included playing baseball, cooking, shopping, and hanging with his siblings and friends. After graduation, JaVantae had future plans of attending Alabama State University in Montgomery, Alabama, and enlist in the United States Navy. JaVuntae was preceded in death by his grandmother, Sheila Lemons-Shockley; great-grandparents, Frank Norris, Talmus and Dorothy Lemons, Jr., and Lewis H. and Dorothy Vaughn; great-aunts, Barbara Newton and Angie Lemons; and great-uncle, Sheddrick Berry. JaVuntae leaves to cherish his loving memories: his parents, Marquita Norris and Jarvis (Carlisa Mayes) Vaughn; grandparents, Angelia Norris, Carl Thomas, and Tommy (Linda) Vaughn; great-grandmother, Pauline Norris; siblings, Cornelius Norris, Zaniyah Vaughn, Ja'Coria Vaughn, Jayda Vaughn, Christopher Taylor, Chrissiah Taylor, and Journee Favors; aunts, Inga Vaughn, Ta'Kelia Norris, Bridget (Gallileo) Holyfield-Moss, and Shayla Vaughn; great-aunts, Gloria Fears, Maletha (Paul) Lemons-Buckley, Rita Andrews, and Juanita Henley; great- uncles, Andre Norris and Charles (Lashonda) Norris, Lewis Vaughn, Robert Vaughn, Jerry (Charley) Vaughn, Randolph Vaughn, Carliss Lemons, and Donald (Rosa) Lemons; special cousins, LaGeisha Blassingame and Senquavious Norris; special friends, Julez Marshalls and Ahmaud Daniel; and a host of other cousins and friends.
