Obituary

Helen Albertha Kendrick was born on August 3, 1943, in Nassau, Bahamas, to the late Eric Kerr and Maria Kerr. She received her early education at Our Lady's Catholic School in the Bahamas. On January 26, 1955, at the age of eleven, along with some family members, she relocated to the United States. They settled in Miami, Florida, where she continued her education at Dunbar Elementary School and Booker T. Washington High School.

On June 4th 1961, Helen married the love of her life, Jimmy L. Kendrick, Sr., and together they shared 64 years of marriage.

Helen accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior in 1961, beginning a lifelong walk of faith that shaped every part of her journey. She became a faithful member of St. Mary House of Prayer in Miami, Florida, and played a vital role in planting several churches throughout Florida and South Carolina. In 1980, Helen and her husband moved to Atlanta, Georgia, where they continued ministry and planted churches in Thomaston and Griffin, Georgia. Before her passing, she attended Living Waters Church under the leadership of Pastor Don and Sandra Sansbury.

Throughout her years in ministry, Helen served with grace and humility—as a Mother of the Church in earlier congregations and later as a supportive and loving pastor's wife. She was well known for her vibrant praise, her heartfelt singing, and her joyful dancing before the Lord. Her life reflected her favorite sayings: "Lord, keep me near the cross" and "You are my God."

Helen was employed with Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami, Florida, and after relocating to Georgia, she later retired from Bank of America in Atlanta. Always active and never idle, she continued to pour into others by working occasionally as a substitute teacher, influencing children with the same kindness and patience she lived by.

She enjoyed gardening, crossword puzzles, and spending time with her family. Her life was marked by a fervent love for everyone she met. She was known for her joy, kindness, worship, generosity, and her warm smile that made all feel welcome. Many described her as humble and meek, a true example of a Proverbs 31 woman, inspiring women of all ages to pursue a Christ-like life.

Helen leaves to cherish her precious memory her loving husband of 64 years, Jimmy L. Kendrick, Sr.; her devoted children: Patrice Jenkins, Cycloria (Chancey Sr.) King, Nicole (Horace) Carr, Jimmy Kendrick Jr., Sonya (Oswald) Ashley, Tangela (Cliff) Clayman, and Shontelle Ferguson; her beloved brother Irvin (Paulette) Kerr, her only surviving sibling; a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and spiritual children who loved her dearly.

She is preceded in death by her siblings: Shirley Walton, Rudolph Kerr, Lawrence Kerr, and Edith Barr.

Helen lived a life full of worship, compassion, and unwavering devotion to God. Her legacy is one of faith, love, gentleness, and strength. Everyone who encountered her left feeling seen, valued, and loved—her presence was a reflection of Christ Himself. Her memory will continue to live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know her.

"Well done, thou good and faithful servant…enter into the joy of thy Lord."
