The Life Story of Lonnie Barkley

LONNIE BARKLEY was born on August 19, 1941, in Lamar County, Georgia, to the late

Mary Jane Williams and Henry Barkley. He was blessed to be the second oldest of eight children.

Lonnie was raised in Lamar County, where he attended the Lamar County school system from

elementary school through Lamar County High School.

Lonnie lived a simple but meaningful life. He was a hardworking man who retired from logging,

a job that reflected his strength, dedication, and willingness to work with his hands. He enjoyed

watching television, calling and checking on family and friends, and having good conversations.

Lonnie had a way of staying connected with the people he loved, and those calls and talks became

a part of who he was.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Mary Jane Williams and Henry Barkley, and his son,

Rodney Stroud.

On August 3, 2026, at 7:35 p.m., Lonnie peacefully departed this earthly life at Pruitt Healthcare.

Though his presence will be missed, the memories he created and the love he shared will continue

to live in the hearts of those who knew him.

He leaves to cherish his memory: his children, Gracie Souder, Melissa Williamson, and Betty

Clemons; special friend, Sally Clemons; sisters, Lucy Sims, Michelle, Shirley, Tabetha, and Abby;

brother, Jerry; grandchildren, Devoris, Shavoris, Lonnie A., Siriya, De'nijae, Kennedy, Kassidy,

Kentwan, Khortez, and Kourtney; great-grandchildren, AJ, LaTraya, Amar'e, Eli, Ina, Skyler, Star,

Brooklyn, and Romeo; caregiver, Melissa Underwood; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other

relatives, and friends.

'The family would like to give special thanks to Pruitt Healthcare, the nurses and staff, and Tracey

from Wellstar for the care, kindness, and support shown during Lonnie's time of need.
