Richard "Cunningham"
Brooks
Mar 7, 1958 — Sep 29, 2026
Mr. Richard David Brooks was born on March 7, 1958, in Barnesville, Lamar County, Georgia, to Ms. Gladis Brooks and the late Mr. Adolphus Garland. Richard grew up in Griffin, Georgia, and received his education through the Spalding County school system. From an early age, Richard was known to be quiet, humble, and one who mostly kept to himself. He lived life in his own simple and peaceful way. Richard was affiliated with Pine Grove Baptist Church. Though he was a man of few words, his presence was known and remembered by those who loved him. He enjoyed spending time in “The Flat,” hanging out with his friends, and simply being around familiar faces. Too many, that is where Richard’s memory will live on: in the places he walked, the people he knew, and the quiet moments he shared. Richard worked various jobs throughout his life and did what he could along the way. He was not a person who needed the spotlight, but his life still carried meaning, memories, and love. Those who knew him will remember his quiet spirit and the way he kept moving through life in his own way. Richard was preceded in death by his father, Adolphus Garland; his grandmothers, Ruby Corbin and Sally Garland; and his siblings, Walter “Peewee” Brooks, Geraldine “Sister” Watts, Brenda Furlow, Delphine Brooks, Mark Brooks, and Bonita Brooks. Richard was called from labor to rest on September 29, 2026, at Brightmoor Hospice at the age of 68. He leaves to cherish his memory of his loving mother, Gladis Brooks; his brother, Charlie Morris Brooks; and a host of other relatives, friends, and all who knew and loved him. Richard, you will be missed, especially around The Flat. Take your rest. No more pain.
